Bulbophyllum sumatranum is also known as The Sumatran Bulbophyllum.
Synonyms:
Bulbophyllum lobbii subsp breviflorum [J. J. Sm.] Mangal 2015
Bulbophyllum lobbii var brevifolum J. J. Sm. 1908
Found in Thailand, peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo in montane forests at elevations of 900 to 1500 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte that blooms on a single flowered inflorescence. The flower size is 7,5 cm.
Light:
This species requires a light level of 15000-25000 lux and needs to be kept in shade. The light level should be enough so the leaves just turn yellow-green.
Temperature:
The Bulbophyllum sumatranum needs about the same temperature throughout the year. The average temperature of the day is 24-26°C, at night 14-15°C, with a daily amplitude of 9-11°C.
Humidity:
Bulbophyllum sumatranum needs a high humidity of 75-80% throughout the year.
Substrate, growing media and repotting:
These species are usually grown in pots or baskets. Use a loose, fast-drying substrate. Because they have short roots, baskets or shallow pots work best.
Watering:
Keep this plant moist. Give it 3-5 waterings per week and let dry lightly between waterings.
Fertilizer:
Bulbophyllum lobbii should be fertilized every week with 1/4-1/2 of the recommended dose of fertilizer for orchids.
Rest period:
In winter, Bulbophyllum sumatranum should be allowed to lightly dry between waterings, but they should not completely dry out or remain without water. Watering and fertilization should be slightly reduced during colder, darker winter months.
